Dr. 道格·比格斯 was born in 埃姆斯, Iowa where his father taught Geology and Earth Science at Iowa State University for his entire career. Dr. Biggs holds a BA and an MA in 历史 from Iowa State University and a Ph. D. from the University of Minnesota. He has written extensively about the political culture of late medieval England, specifically the reigns of Richard II (1377-99) and Henry IV (1399-1413). He has presented his research at International Conferences on both sides of the Atlantic, 在欧洲, and in New Zealand. He is also the Managing Series Editor for Late Medieval Europe, a monograph series for Brill Academic Publishers in the Netherlands. In late 2009 Dr. Biggs became interested in the local history of his hometown and also of his undergraduate alma mater, Iowa State University. This has led to several publications, 两本书, and numerous public lectures on historical subjects in 埃姆斯 about 埃姆斯 and Iowa State University.  In Fall 2017 Dr. Biggs received the prestigious Pratt-Heins Foundation 教师 Award for Outstanding Service to the 体育菠菜大平台 Community in the Area of Research/Scholarship.

Doug has led many student groups abroad to the UK and Europe.  In 2018 he led students on a Study Abroad experience to Palacky University, Olomouc Czech Republic.  The relationships forged there have led to a significant enhancement in collaboration between Palacky University and 体育菠菜大平台 across a number of different departments and academic areas.  2022年博士. Biggs was named as an External Adviser for International Affairs by Palacky University and in January 2023 he was named as Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Relations at 体育菠菜大平台
